Testing Requirements

For Arizona Teachers K-12

In order to become a teacher in Arizona you must pass the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments as exams to meet the requirements for a teaching license.  Arizona Teachers of Tomorrow has created  resources to help you with this and the information below is from our work with the Arizona Department of Education.

Note that Arizona works with NES for the Educator Proficiency Assessments tests and those tests are computer based – not paper and pencil.  You must use your social security number with all Educator Proficiency Assessments testing in order to process your teacher certification paperwork.  If you test in Arizona all scores will automatically be sent to the Arizona Department of Education.

AEPA Subject
Knowledge Test

You must take the specific AEPA test in the subject area in which you are seeking certification. You may take additional subject tests to meet federal highly qualified status.  This is highly recommended as it makes you a better candidate for a teaching position.  Go to the ADE site on Required Arizona Educator Exams to determine which exams you must have to enter the teaching profession.
